Over the break we took a short drive out to Fredericksburg, TX.
While there we went to the National Museum of the Pacific War (Nimitz Museum).
There was a ton of interesting info and the museum and it's displays were visually outstanding. It's really much more than an indoor museum and we would have had to take more than one day to visit all of it. While there, we did the indoor museum and the outdoor displays a few blocks away.
Here are a few snapshots:
Iwo Jima Sculpture

A flag that was flown on a boat manned by a US Coast Guard crew.
Read all about that here...
Actually these aren't actual rungs. They are painted on and are in fact flat.
I love how my kids are so intent on learning about stuff at museums. They are always reading the info and constantly engaging themselves in learning. It makes for a nice family outing when we can go to lunch later and talk about intelligent stuff (sorry Spongebob there's a time and a place).
We were also able to eat at a German restaurant in town called Altdorf Biergarten. Zach got the weiner schintzel and Brooke got the schnitzel on a stick...neither could finish their lunch. Too much schnitzel!!
The food was tasty but I would be up for trying something else next time...like Mamacitas...which just happens to have a location there next to the outdoor museum exhibits. We'll see next time...I just want to make sure that there is quality control among the different Mamacitas locations. Somebody has to do it!
