We picked up the kids from school around noon today. After many tears and lots of hugs we headed out of Valdez. It felt so surreal to be driving out for the last time. We have lived many places and moved around plenty, but my heart felt saddest leaving Valdez. That town was great to us. I think the sadness comes from knowing we can't come back easily or anytime soon. Everywhere else we've lived we could always drive back anytime but Valdez is a bit off the map and doesn't lend itself to easily dropping back by. As usual, it's the friends we've made that we will miss the most and hopefully keep forever.
We arrived in Tok, AK a bit before 5 pm. The drive was quick. We checked into the Burnt Paw Cabins, which are rustic and clean.

Now everyone knows, when in Tok, there's only one place to eat and that's Fast Eddy's. We had many things from their expansive menu. Clearly we've blown our per diem and with gas prices at $4.39 at our last fill up we'll be in the hole before we get to the lower 48. While out, we also took a little stop into Three Bears. Now if you live in Valdez, you know and miss three Bears since that fateful day, not so long ago, that it closed. If you don't know Three Bears, let me explain..it's a mini Costco..I know it's an oxymoron but, it is what it is.

Finally, at the Burnt Paw Cabins there are puppies for sale. Typical of a lodging establishment I know. Yes, I was asked about nine hundred times if we could buy a puppy and take it to Texas with us. We have not one inch of spare room but all three kids volunteered to take turns holding it for the next few weeks...yeah, that's gonna happen. Do explain this...the cabin owners are selling the puppies, but it's a no pets facility????
Ok anyway, first leg of the trip was great and we are on our way. Stay tuned in I'm sure it will become more eventful as the days pass.
