Lots of really random stuff this week...

I'd like to say I've had a whirlwind week doing important stuff...like world peacekeeping and such but the tuth is I have not been busy doing anything in particular just lots of little things that needed tending to or that I've been wanting to do but hadn't made time to do.  Here is a little snapshot of how our week has been so far.

On Sunday, we watched football...I know..shocker.  We also made southwestern soup which was really yummy and as an intro into fall, we made these....

Caramel apples.....YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM.  So good....see the apple on the right hand side...plain caramel, no extra topping, no excess caramel pooling around the bottom...just a perfect looking caramel apple...that's mine...again shocker, I'm sure.  I love the kids' apples and Charlie's too....I like to think they probably represent us all in some way.

Later in the week we had to endure the culmination of the month long Arthropod Project for Miles' biology class....

I say "endure" because this was an involved thing.  He had to find and, using a "kill" jar, capture these bugs and then stick pins through their bodies and attach them to the board.  Then he had to identify them and create a presentation board.  I preferred the title Arthropod Palooza but Miles was not interested so here is his final project (I've blurred out the addresses where we found them, as next of kin have not been identified, but his work was well done).  In fact, his project was one of a handful selected to go to the library for long term display.  He said, "My large butterfly was a hit...dare I say 'best in show,' thank you very much."  Uuuh Miles, dare I say, if your momma hadn't been the one to stick the pins through those crunchy bug bodies you would be in bad shape.  It was pretty gross!!  And the teacher was all about every bug having all it's parts...if an antennae or leg was gone....sorry but no credit.

So in addition to volunteering at the school this week, I have also acquired a new toy tool.  It is a Bind It All...it's a small size for home use.  LOVE IT!  It means you can take anything and turn it into a book...records, dvd's, license plates, paper, you name it.  Soon I will be binding everything  in sight.  I have a great plan to use our Alaska license plates to make a scrapbook of our time in Alaska.  Really the possibilities are endless...

I'm thinking the kids can use it for school projects too, at least that was one of my selling points when I mentioned it to Charlie.  If you want to see it in action you can go to YOUTUBE and type in Bind It All and there are tons of demos.

And finally, at Brooke's prompting, we've been getting out some fall/Halloween decorations. She has been a busy bee...we started with the entry way.  This is where we enter the house (that is the table I got from the Pottery Barn outlet for a super steal price.....I should have bought another one).

This is our new Halloween wreath that one of the gals in Valdez was making and selling.  It lights up and I can't wait to turn it on for the spooky effect.

Ok that's it for now....I'm sure the weekend will be eventful....I'm already looking around for an adventure or two.  Sometimes I feel like Julie the Cruise director.....but there is so much to do especially since we are new here and we just wanna have some fun!!!

Gee I guess the lack of parental involvement when you were growing up has spurred you into action to make sure your kids have that extra help. Good job. Maybe you don't have to lead by example just lack of it will do. Great job Proud of you and the rest of the girls

The caramel apples look yummy!!! I think the only one in my family, besides me, that would want to eat them is Curtis...and caramel is a no-no with braces! Love the Pottery Barn table. Never went to the outlet...might have to venture there someday!! Have a good week!
