Friday night is usually "make your own pizza night" here at the Nowak household, so here are the kids' pizza masterpieces. Brooke and Zach going calzone style, Miles very traditional...
(We had a big agenda tonight so Zach didn't do one of his regular countries of the world pizzas, but normally his pizzas are in the shapes of different countries.) Along with the pizza, I got BIG points for offering soda...and better yet, in the form of nostalgic bottling. When I was a kid I was not allowed much soda...it was definitely a treat item, so when I see these bottles I always think that drinking from them isn't just having a treat but creating a memory. Brooke, especially, was impressed.
After dinner we took a neighborhood bike ride, then we headed back just in time for the Presidential debate tonight. I asked who was joining me to watch McCain and Obama....these were the responses:
- Zach, who could clearly be president of the Young Republicans Club at the elementary school, if one existed, lectured me on how the democrats have totally screwed up the economic welfare of the country...something about Democratic congress...I was crunching ice and trying so hard to keep it together and not crack up at his enthusiasm. He was quite adamant. Evidently some teachers at school have been sharing their political views. Although, the fact that McCain is a POW and Zach's loyalty to this country and it's veterans, is really all she wrote...after that, he went up to watch a movie with Brooke...so clearly he's a part time republican..like between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm....not during recreational hours, thank you..it's great to be 11 years old huh?
- Miles opted to hang downstairs with me, probably because there wasn't any football on tonight, to watch the debates. About 25 minutes in he got frustrated with the CNN analysts “just passing out points” and wondering what the basis and structure of the point system was, that he ended up watching a movie somewhere else in the house...he really likes rules and defined structure. Before leaving the room Miles suggested a whisper voiceover, a la spelling bees or golf, during the debates…umm, he also suggested popcorn with m&m’s be delivered to him..neither of these things may happen….ok maybe the popcorn/m&m’s because I want some too, and it would be wrong to fill the house with the smell of popcorn and not share...right???
Now is a great time to let people know that peanut m&m's are my favorite snack and when mixed with popcorn...they can only get better. Add a Dr. Pepper to that and you've got pure magic...MAGIC!! I know what you are all thinking..I should package the three together and call it like "Fruits of the Gods" or something like that...great idea...I'll begin marketing it right away..I'll start with my local health food stores. Who says I don't know a recipe for success when I see one?
At any rate, our evening was peaceful, fun, snack happy and I'm on my way to deciding who I am voting for for President of these United States...that's right...whoever likes popcorn with m&m's most...OH I'm kidding...maybe!!!!

I actually would have liked to watch the debates with Zach.. that would have been good stuff.. AND.. I will have peanut m&m's today and maybe some hot cocoa with pumpkin spice in it.. if it exists in Hawaii... I think that miles however was the smartest... voiceovers for the debates..now there is a money maker- love you guys!!
I have to say I have never experienced popcorn with M&M's...might have to give it a try! As for the Dr. Pepper, I am right there with ya! You know the Dr. Pepper museum and factory is in Waco, TX, right? I never went (I am the only one who likes/drinks Dr Pepper), but I will get there whenever we make it back to Texas. By the way, if you have any good insights into the elections (either your own or your children's) feel free to share with friends. Especially me...since I,too, am trying to decide who to vote for!
i have to say that I finally feel "back in the loop" with a computer - (laptop from school, you know the one). Probably shouldn't be on personal blogs with this - but ugh - major computer issues and mine crashed and i'm going through withdrawals so i brought it home - :)
Anyway, i've enjoyed catching up on your posts and love all the "family outings" you all do and I'm very impressed that with two boys (the ages they are) that they are still so interested (no offense) in hanging out with the "family" and flying kites, playing in backyard, making pizzas, etc. It's quite a compliment to you and Charlie for creating such a fun and loving home environment to be in!!! I'm curious - what's your secret? I love it though and aspire to have 3/4 kids of my own and great visions and doing family pizza night and bike rides all throughout their days at home!! So, kuddos to you and have to say " miss ya girlie!"
