It's true...summer is coming to a close for the kids..school will be starting in less than two weeks. Although summer really won't be coming to end for a few more months here, since we live in perpetual summer now.
Yesterday we decided to "trick" the kids into school supply shopping by telling them we were going out for an ice cream. Kidding...these crazy children of mine like shopping for school supplies...they must get that from me...I'm a dork and LOVE going to office supply stores and picking out new pens, paper, label makers, etc. It's a sickness I know.
Anyway, we hit Marble Slab Creamery first to get powered up for the shopping....
Here's Brooke with her vanilla ice cream with whoppers mixed in (which for some reason she calls "woffers" - like she told the lady behind the counter and the girl said "whoPPers" and Brooke said "yeah, woFFers" - that girl so did not know who she was messin' with.
And not to be outdone here is my little slice of heaven...amaretto ice cream with heath bar mixed in ....it lasted like two seconds before I ingested the whole thing. It was so good...did you all know that I am lactose necessary? (like the opposite of lactose intolerant...true story)Ok so on to the school shopping...yeah that was a treat..good news was that there was NO ONE in the school shopping aisles because tax free weekend starts Friday here and they are all waiting????? Good luck to them because there were many things out of stock and the aisles are gonna be jammed..but not with me because I'm not going anywhere near that store this weekend. Not worth the $10 I'd save in tax.
So in case you were wondering what $137 in school supplies looks like...here it is....
And, head's up, we are not done yet. All of the kids still have 2-3 items each which could not be found at the store. It's insane, the amount of STUFF that kids need for school...I was a genius, back in the day, and only had a half used pencil and a pack of notebook paper...now don't blame my parents, they were spending a pretty penny keeping my sister in chapstick which evidently she really enjoyed eating as snack at school???? Weirdness! Anyway, these days there are things like this available....
Your regular paper, glue and markers but look closely...OH MY GOD....AAAAAHHHHH it's Hannah Montana glue sticks and squishy covered folders that have holes in them that your parents can spend extra money to buy "thingies" to pop in the holes. Holy freakin' cow--there was so much stuff and so much junk that it takes FOREVER to just get through the basic necessity shopping. Now I know I said I like doing this kind of thing but this was a bit painful!Miles, who is very practical and no nonsense was getting very frustrated with the choices. At some point he just suggested abandoning the cart and starting over somewhere else another day - I think he really wanted to start over another day way back at the ice cream part...I'm on to him!
To console everyone, Charlie rounded out the evening by taking us to WHATABURGER...oh yeah!, we're on a big health food kick around here. OK seriously, if you have not experienced WHATABURGER, don't!!! Not even to just say "Yuck, I totally agree with you".
It's just a big 'ol NO THANK YOU!
I don't get it!!! It's a fast food burger chain here that is open 24 hours a day and when we drove into town the very first night at 3:30 am there were at least 4 cars in the drive thru?????? Seriously it's not good, but it's always packed???? This was our second, and last, try....in fact I didn't order anything for myself... can't handle it!
And in my final announcements of the day...it rained all morning...BIG news as our yard is looking super crispy...and the guy came to texturize the walls upstairs so tomorrow we can paint and put up the moldings and then we are done with that closet project. WAHOO!!!
I know you all will be checking back in the coming days to see the riveting closet update....secretly wishing you were me and could have had a guy in your house this very morning wearing jean shorts and tube socks pulled up to the knees who kept calling your husband "Shuck" while he way overcharged you for an hour and a half of work that, admittedly you couldn't do yourself, but still made you feel like you were getting your head ripped off. Yeah that was my morning!

I seriously understand where you are coming from about the school supplies!! I remember spiral notebooks and folders. I think the teachers just stock pile all the stuff we give them...my kids always have brand new stuff to bring home at the end of the year!!
The ice cream looked great!! One more thing for us to enjoy together on our outlet shopping trip! Wish that day was going to be tomorrow!!

So which sister is it that you speak of when you refer to this chapstick thing. Cause I definitely remember Deanna having some crusty lips! Although I do enjoy a good Dr.Pepper lip smacker.
Hey good Job. Looks like I got out of the scholl supply business Just in time. I can't hardly keep up with what I need for the computer here at the house
