Fabulous Fair(s) Weekend

This past weekend was busy busy busy.

We kicked off the weekend Saturday morning, heading out the door early, for the elementary school Renaissance Fair fundraiser.  The day started off cool and windy but ended up being H-O-T ----->>>>> HOT !!

First on the agenda...the Renaissance Fair Run...a quick 1/2 mile run...

Brooke came in second, for her group with her friend there taking first place.

Zach also came in second for his division.  Turns out Zach may be a track star...he was really moving!!!

Now onto the most important of festival/fair finds....FOOD! (I always have enjoyed alliteration...oh and obviously ellipses....Kid-ding!)

There were lots of choices...the most expected of which were turkey legs...the yummiest turkey legs ever! We also had sno cones, sausage wraps, hot dogs, cotton candy, and fries.

The boys all tried their hand at archery...and they were all VERY good! Dare I say, there were some bull eyes in the bunch!

Brooke had a soccer game at 1pm...you know--- the super hot part of the day...so we all headed over to her game, which they won.

It was almost 90 degrees and honestly I'm not sure how she made it through the whole game. And if you don't believe me...the town pool is adjacent to the soccer fields and there were kids swimming...on April 4...goodness gracious...it's true!

More than one of us wanted to join them.

Now while at the Renaissance Fair we participated in the silent auction.  We browsed all the items...which were many...and I then had to run to do my volunteer stint at our classroom booth, so I left Charlie UNATTENDED...big mistake....HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!  Evidently he was in a charitable mood and, seeing as it was for a good cause, he decided to bid on MANY items. How fortunate that we won so MANY of those MANY items...to the tune of a bazillion dollars!  We are now the proud owners of gift certificates to the following:
Believe me when I say - after writing the check, I will be needing that bottle of wine!!! I just keep reminding myself that it is going to a good cause!  Our day was full and we were all ready for a little relaxation and an early bedtime!

Well, after recuperating from our Saturday festivities there was only one way to spend our Sunday...more festivities!

We decided to drive about an hour to.....

George Strait, a legend in country music was born here. Now, if this looks familiar it would be near where I got my speeding ticket last year, right after we moved here..fond memories...NOT!!

Anyway, we went for this....

When we got there we saw lots of these....

...those would be Texas Rangers...and there were tons of them.  I felt as if the strawberries must be very valuable or we were going to be amongst a crowd and we would be mighty safe!
There was lots of stuff happening...

chuckwagon meals...

picture takin' opportunities...

and this...the one and only reason to come to Poteet...

Strawberries...OH!!!!MY!!!!  Strawberry shortcake...YUM!!!!!!!

I really couldn't tell you how many we ate all in all...they were so good! We started off sharing but things just started gettin' ugly so we had to buy more.

There were people BBQing everything under the sun and then
of course

There were other goodies too.  Like chocolate covered strawberries.  UHHHH....so good!!

We did do a lot of snacking, for sure, but it was strawberries so that means it was a healthy snack. No worries!

I'm always such a debit card person that I rarely remember to get cash and then I panic but then I should always remember that these are such a mainstay at this festivals. Seriously, it's insane to see a line of ATM's in the dirt, in the middle of nowhere!  CRAZY to me!

Again we had a really fun and filling Sunday.  We hit Mamacitas on the way back and can I just say that if I have to ask for a refill of green dip then our cranky waiter was not doing his J-O-B...and yes we asked for Carmen...evidently she takes days off, even when our family NEEDS her.

Hope your weekend was just as exciting as ours! Just today I got wind of another festival or two in the very near future.  You know we'll probably be there!

Now I know who outbid us!! That was totally us last year, but it was fun and it was to a good cause. This year we had to leave for some events from 2:30-4ish and by the time we got back the bidding was over! We were in the running for about 7 things, but we only got one thing! It's very important to be there during the last few minutes of bidding. I was completely expecting to get the Kendall Inn dinner. Think of me while you are dining! :)

And by the way, my husband thanks you!

Why, yes; it IS actually all about the food. That's why I keep tuning in! :)

BTW, did you see OUR weather lately? I think I'll take snow over 90 degrees. We must live in the right place, huh?
