Half Day Friday

The kids had a half day of school today so we picked everyone up and headed out to a nice family lunch...or what I assumed would be a nice family lunch. We had discussions about where to go and ultimately we let the kids decide where they wanted to go....so they decided on an Italian chain with the initials OG....ya know, the one where you can order "all you can eat soup, salad and breadsticks."

So first of all we got there at 1:30 and had to wait outside because it was so crowded. Then we were escorted in to a large round table where the tile meets the carpet...where the kitchen doors swing out...where the whole world buzzes by and disrupts your meal...where Charlie had no less than 44 trays of food held over his head while waitresses and waiters were scooching by one another to deliver food or return dirty dishes or seat people. We literally were in the middle of the OG runway. The food was good but the atmosphere was horrific due to our seating location and honestly it was painful to part with $75 for lunch for what was really a not so great experience...I almost asked the manager for a "do over" tomorrow....yeah, it was that annoying!!!!

Thankfully my children are clever and funny and interesting enough to distract me so the afternoon was still salvagable. In fact, part of our lunch conversation was about the meaning of the code term "broken arrow"...Brooke and I were lost for a few moments but Charlie and the boys were completely informed...I hate to say this but... is it a guy thing? Anyway, I think these days I am learning almost as much from as I am teaching to my children. Our drive home conversation was about the merits, or in Miles' opinion the lack thereof, of music by Bob Dylan and Jimmy Hendrix ...with some interesting thoughts about their poor personal choices regarding illegal substances.

Never a dull moment with this crew. Would you have asked for the do over? I should have at least mentioned it even if I don't think it would have mattered. It was nice to spend time with the kids no matter the situation so, I'll be thankful for the time and opportunity..even if it was spent learning about nuclear threats and drug induced music. I guess that didn't come out right but, you know what I meant right? Right?
