The first week of school this year has come to an end. When the kids and I struck a deal about bus riding I had no idea it would be such a hit with Brooke. As you recall, and I know you commit my blog posts to memory so just give yourself a moment, I had tremendous guilt about the kids riding the bus. Yeah..that was Monday morning. On Monday afternoon, I picked everyone up after school, feeling good about the less crazy morning that comes with riding the bus, and had the chance to talk to everyone individually which I loved. I was able to extract every last detail out of the boys...positive stuff. Things went very well for everyone and the consensus was the bus wasn't so bad after all.
While walking to the bus stop on Tuesday morning Brooke upgraded herself to full time bus rider. I was like
..."what? I'll pick you up, don't be silly...mommy doesn't mind..no really Brooke I insist"
...and then she was "mom it's a short ride and it comes straight home, please?"
...and just like that she was walking into her dorm room at college and I was standing there crying like a baby...oh sorry that's a future moment...anywho...
I said "fine.whatever.go ahead.I'll just be here waiting for you" and do you know none of those guilt laced sarcastic words moved her. So full time bus rider she is now.
She came bounding off the bus that afternoon with full confidence...which in truth I have been trying to stuff back in her backpack because sometimes "full confidence" comes out as "sassy mouth." I do miss picking her up, so when the whole bus riding thing gets old I'll be right back to chauffeur duty...truthfully I can't wait.
To celebrate our first week back to school success we broke out this thing...
Oh yeah....this is old school....THIS is the Hamilton Beech Drinkmaster (jealous I know) or as we fondly refer to it "the milkshake maker." Charlie received this as a gift when he was 12 and it is still working perfectly. We made 5 extra large and super yummy milkshakes Friday night. Anything with ice cream is a good thing!!
And honestly we had big plans to just relax this weekend. I have many things going on volunteering, Zach has started cross country at school and Brooke starts soccer in the next week or so and we were all worn out from getting up early. Clearly everyone but Charlie had the same idea..sometime Saturday morning around 10:30 Charlie, while trying to remove the label, managed to explode an unopened 2 liter bottle of soda in the office...
Umm...during crisis of this nature we do not observe child labor laws....clearly! Plus, they thought this was a riot!! Me...not so much!
I have had white carpet in my house. It took us 3+ hours to fully and completely wipe down the walls...shampoo the carpets and mop the floors....honestly...it was ugly....and sticky....and not relaxing!!! But we were all impressed with Charlie's non stop rendition of Hannah Montana's "Everybody Makes Mistakes" during clean up...really nothing phases him!
I am hoping for another great week and a much less exciting Saturday this weekend!
And PS on Sunday I went to another kickin' jewelry party (hear that Tricia)...
with awesome partay food (hear that Michelle).
Good times!

I am glad that Brooke's bus riding experience is turning out to be a positive one. I know it is a change for you. Great to hear about all the Nowak happenings! Wish we were there to partake of them in person...who knows??? Maybe next summer??? :-)
I'm just glad you have friends, because as this post just reminded us, we DO all commit your blog to memory and I remember way back at the beginning of this blog there being a wee bit of whining about you, MOM, not having any other MOM friends. So, at last! One less thing for me to fret over. Thank you! Also send the shake machine, STAT and no one will get hurt.
Until you have cleaned baked beans off every surface in your kitchen (to include the ceiling - to which you had to get your friend to come over because at 5'10" it was MUCH easier for her to do it than little 5'5" you) - you haven't experienced a "fun cleanup"!!! Glad Brooke is enjoying the bus - Beth is BEGGING me to let her ride the bus. Sadly - until we move that can't happen since we live less than a mile from school - thus no bus service! Hope this weekend is less eventful - but knowing the Nowak's - I doubt it! Ha ha!
