Brooke is playing soccer and she had her first two games this past weekend. Saturday's game was fun and they won the game. Brooke was playing the center defender position and made some great moves to get the ball back down the field away from the goal. Sunday's game was great too...but they didn't win...of course that was a bummer for her, but honestly it's a great lesson to have something like that happen. It makes the kids work a little harder and it's humbling...especially after the previous days' win! We have games every weekend through the middle of May so it is going to be awesome to see her skills develop.
Here are a few shots of her in action (she's in the black and white uniform)
Miles is playing baseball again and they had their first game on Tuesday night. The first inning was awesome with our boys getting the lead, then the second inning was a killer...the other team was at bat and bases were loaded and everyone ran in on a great hit combined with an overthrown ball, score was 1 us and 5 them. It was disastrous and the boys were feeling a bit defeated. The catcher really rallied Miles' team and in the bottom of the 4th inning they got back in it, only down by one. It ended up being the last inning of the game and Miles got up to bat...hit a double and sent a teammate in to tie the score and then the next kid got up to bat, hit a homerun sending Miles to homeplate for the winning run and the homerun kid in for an extra little icing on top. Game over!!!
Some more great lessons here...
- never underestimate a team by their initial appearance (some of their kids were small)
- never think it's over till the game is really over
- spending $90 on a new bat may in fact improve your game (I can't even speak the words to tell you how much the glove cost last season)
- saying "winner, winner chicken dinner" never gets old
- and the final lesson of the evening...the bathrooms at the ball park WILL be less than desirable and Brooke will impart little gems of wisdom along the lines of ..."see this is why we should have a portable toilet in our car"...and "I wish I had a diaper right now!!"
Stay tuned for more little gems...they are coming fast and furious!!!
