Concern about our carbon footprint....kinda

So in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint we've been working on a little something...

I know, the ideas are swirling...what could it be?

you're thinking...The Nowaks are officially committing to complete and total recycling...

not exactly...

Oh..so the Nowaks are starting a compost pit in their backyard....

well, noooo....

ok....cutting down on their energy consumption by using candles after dark?

..nope....

taking part in a community garden??...

no...

planting trees en masse??....

ummm..en masse what?  non...

making their kids ride the school bus?????

yeah right...uuh no!!!

So then what is it????

Get ready for the Nowak family goes green...

On Friday afternoon we traded in this....

for this...

What do you mean that's not going green?  What if I told you it was a hybrid?  OK fine... it's not a hybrid, but I couldn't part with enough green to get the hybrid Suburban.

It was a full two weeks of wheeling and dealing...and Charlie, out of town via cell phone, dealing with sales guy Kevin (who I now like to call Kev) and me, in town, dealing with some of the paper side of things.  BTW...Kev calls me "sweetie" now...IT IS creepy and I normally don't tolerate pet names from strangers but my car payment only went up $5 a month so you make the call.

Sorry I know it's disappointing but it's the best we could do...it does get better gas mileage..that counts for being green..uuuh greener???...oh never mind... in my defense we can't go small electric car...our kids are ginormous....they start out as toddlers (hello all three of them were over 10 pounds each at birth) and then we feed them and they grow..BIG.  What else can we do? Besides does anybody remember this little incident??

I mean what do you do when you've side swiped your own car in your own garage and they still manage to give you what you need on your trade in?

As you can see, the kids weren't exactly excited about giving the old gal up.  The old Suburban got us, safely, from Virginia to Alaska,  to and from the Arctic circle and all over Alaska and Canada and then all the way to Texas.  She was a good reliable bus...but she was about to be needin' some major servicing and some minor repairs that were gonna equate to about 3 months of car payments so we did what was necessary.

And I'm not gonna kid around...who doesn't love that new car smell...please... it's intoxicating..and from what I understand toxic too, but I digress.

I think the important thing here is that after writing this we will be recycling, planting a family garden in the backyard and driving the kids to and from school in our new ride.

Now...is anyone interested in some soon to be available compost or how about some home grown vegetables?  Aaaahhh...being green just feels so right!!

We will take the veggies! Do you know how impossible it is to get good produce in Alaska in the winter? Of course you do! So, send 'em up, please?
