Destination Imagination

For the better part of this school year I have committed every Wednesday afternoon, along with another parent who I co-managed with, to 7 fourth graders including my own daughter. We were meeting for Destination Imagination, or DI as we call it. If you aren't sure what DI is, go here and read all about it. For the most part, it is a creative, problem solving group...but more than just regular creative....we are talking way out of the box creative thinking. Some of us older folks may remember it used to be called Odyssey of the Mind or OM.

At any rate, each team has to choose one challenge to solve from a handful of options. This year our team chose....

They had to come up with a creative solution which included a "flip" or a change in a characters point of view. The presentation also needed to include a puppet of some kind and oh yeah...did I mention parents are not allowed to suggest or give ideas...AT ALL!! My co-manager and I were only there to supervise and guide. Each and every idea, prop, skit, song...everything had to be only from the kids. If you think that sounds easy..it's not!

DI meetings were every Wednesday after school and a lot of Saturday mornings at my house. We worked and worked and worked.

And all that hard work paid off because our team won third place in the Elementary School division for our region in Texas.

Congratulations to The Crazetic Fliptastic 7 !! Awesome Job!
