Spring Break: Austin, TX Edition

Since we were staying close to home during spring break we decided to drive up and take a look around Austin, TX.

We got up nice and early since we figured we'd come back the same day. This is what it looks like as the sun comes up here in Texas. It is indeed beautiful!!

When we got to Austin we visited the State Capitol...and we even ate lunch in the cafe there. I do recommend checking out the capitol...not so much the cafe. Just sayin'!

We also visited the Bob Bullock Museum. It is a fantastic museum! There is a wonderful display of Texas history there. Three floors of interactive and well presented material. If you ever head to Austin you must check it out.

This giant star resides in front of the entrance to the museum. Texans are SERIOUS about their LONE STAR STATE status.

We realized mid-afternoon that there were 100,000 people heading into Austin for a musicfest weekend so we decided right then and there that we were heading out of Austin.

On our way home we planned to stop in Driftwood, TX to eat here...

for some late lunch/early dinner..."linner"...if you will.

Smiling faces at the prospect of The Salt Lick BBQ...

and here are the 100 other people waiting for their seats here too. Yes, we waited for an hour to be seated, at 2:45 in the afternoon, on a weekday. Crazy! But the weather was beautiful and there was live music so it was fine!

Here is a picture of half of Brooke's plate that was left after she had eaten. The portions were huge and the food was tasty! It's BYOB and they only take cash at this location but they do sell sodas and tea, which we ordered, and on a beautiful day like we had, I would say it was totally worth the wait!

Another little piece of Texas down...a whole lot more Texas to go!!
