After our crazy (let's face it the Big Texan qualifies) adventures getting to Colorado it was nice to drive up and see this.....
Charlie booked four nights at the Cheyenne mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. It a very nice and extremely family friendly resort. One of the things the kids loved the most was the family game room area. It included pool tables which our kids LOVED!!! We played several games of pool with them each day and some of us were getting really good. Brooke kept saying we should take her to Vegas after this....poor girl has no clue what goes on in Vegas evidently!
We sat outside and roasted S'mores....or as Charlie calls them, when he ordered them, "Sh'mores", which sent us all into total fits and giggles, and much mimicking for forever more whenever marshmallows and graham crackers are in our presence. After the cliff dwelling experience we were ready to switch gears and head to another mountain side destination. Our intent was to head to the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun but we found out we had to purchase tickets to go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo because the monument is located within the zoo which is also built into the side of a mountain.
We heard the zoo was great so we headed over....and it did not disappoint! It was lunch time so we did something we wouldn't normally do. We stopped in here and ....
We got to feed the giraffes....
Meet people who take theme dressing to a whole new level.....
Because there was a shred of daylight left and no one had physically fallen out, and everyone was too weak to protest we decided to squeeze one more thing into the day. Our final stop of the day was The Air Force Academy. It's setting is so picturesque. And yes I took this picture myself...the sky really was that beautiful. We headed for the Air Force Academy Chapel....
There are actually several worship areas inside...a Protestant, a Catholic, a Jewish, and a Buddhist meditation area. All are equally beautiful and serene. Our final stop on the base was to check out the AFA football field.
I was able to catch a photo of the kids as the sun was starting to set over the stadium. It was a full day but we had a wonderful day adventuring around Colorado Springs. ***Next installment of this vacay recap includes some four legged friends of the livestock variety!

Well that made me really miss CO. I LOVE the zoo - we had a membership and went often. The zoo here is nice but a zoo w/ a built in work out is pretty hard to beat! Can't wait to see more pics and read more of your adventures!
