In my last post I alluded to the mysterious thing I would be doing for our elementary school. Our school was having a McTeacher fundraiser at McDonald’s and some of us non teachers had volunteered to fill the slots the teachers couldn't cover. I have never worked fast food in my life and I was assigned the drive thru which screamed stress position..like being the goalie in soccer…or the pitcher in baseball…or the mom in the family….oh phhtt....right…ok I got this covered.
Then the call came... in a strange mctwist of events, I was eliminated from my mcposition before I even left the house. I know... unsettling, those people will never know the excitement, enthusiasm, or efficiency I could have brought to the mcteam. Evidently they didn’t need so many volunteers...whatever...so we were free to just show up and eat. So we showed up and realized what a great turn out we had since our family had to park in the bank parking lot next door. We went in and the place was packed….seriously packed….the line was way too long for my crazy hungry crew. The insane look in Charlie's eyes said it all....we headed out, still hungry and a plan for the evening to eat out meant we had to find something and fast. I knew our mccheap-o dinner was out and my evening was about to get a lot more expensive but what can you do so off we went.
We were all looking forward to burgers so we decided on Red Robin and had some insanely GREAT burgers…at a seriously more expensive price; but we were seated, served, and finished in record time so I think it was a great choice…and I’ve volunteered enough to grant myself a pass this once. Sorry kids I know you would have laughed and so enjoyed a shot or two of me being blessed out by a drive thru patron with a jacked up order, courtesy of moi, or a pic of me with the snazzy germ infested headset on….but, alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
We ended up heading to American Eagle since Miles needed more shorts (umm yeah perpetual summer) and got some great deals. I do love a kid who can bargain shop! Then we popped into the Apple store where we all picked out the great stuff we have on our wish lists for Christmas…which was pretty much everything in the store. Sure kids, Santa will probably buy you each your own laptop for Christmas....mmm hmm. Charlie has been having issues with his Blackberry so I am trying to convince him that he needs my iPhone so I can get the newer iPhone….he’s not buying it...literally or figuratively. The kids are all offering to take it off my hands but we all know that’s not happenin!
Ok last stop on the evening tour was to get one of my fave items of the season. We went to Williams Sonoma to get some of this..

Pecan Pumpkin Butter. It’s kinda pricey but it makes me think I’m actually living somewhere with changing leaves and dropping temperaturess. IF I was crazy….I would turn down the air conditioning, put on a sweater, and slather this on toast or make pumpkin pancakes…but who would do such a thing…I mean really….
So our family ended up doing something completely different than we had set out to do Thursday evening, but the one thing I've learned is that being flexible has it's rewards!

So it was a fund raiser and you bailed instead of hanging in there and suporrting your Teachers. Doesn't sound like the Nowak Family.
I am all for supporting school fund raisers (and trust me our school does a lot of them), but I would have chosed Red Robin to begin with....actually we did this evening! Great choice! Glad you all had a great evening, even though it was not the one you planned.
